We consider as our responsibility and duty
to contribute towards the development of humanitarian projects
that result in improving the Brazilian social situation.
Chosen not only due to their relevance in
their social projects, but also because of the effort with which
they are carried out, we help, within our means:
With the mission of guaranteeing to children
and adolescents with cancer, within the most advanced scientific
standards, the right to attain all the chances of a cure. The
Institute de Pediatric Oncology receives children and adolescents
from various States of Brazil and cities of the interior of
the State of São Paulo. Most of these children do not
have a place to stay in order to continue their treatment, which
requires an average of eighteen months of intense care. GRAACC,
to offer support to these children and those that accompany
them, decided to implant, in 1993, the Casa da Família
(Family House) project, whose purpose is to lodge patients that
live outside the State capital.
All expenses (rent, water, electricity, telephone, food, hygiene
and cleaning products) are paid by GRAACC and lodging is free.
Volunteers are also present at the Casa da Família: psychologists
follow the development of the children and adolescents, and
groups of youngsters take part in recreation and arts on Saturday
afternoons.
Helping those who need to fly with their
own wings. IBISS works to break the vicious circle of exclusion
and marginalization, creating reference centers for youngsters
involved with prostitution and people living on the streets,
by encouraging self-organization. In the same way, IBISS also
helps to avoid that elderly and handicapped be confined in asylums,
where they usual receive inhumane treatment.
As well as various positive results for the
assisted communities, that work is getting national and international
recognition, confirming the importance of IBISS work for the
Brazilian society. Thus, thanks to it we are, more than ever,
sure that soon many more will be flying with their own wings.
